Covenant Presbyterian Church

Four Thrusts of Ministry

A Summary of Covenant's Major Ministry Areas

Growing Further

  through Outreach and Compassion...

Compassion Ministries

You're invited to consider joining a ministry team that expresses the Compassion of Christ Jesus in tangible ways, hopefully one that fits your unique skills, personality and spiritual gifts. Maybe it's providing a meal, be it home cooked or a favorite carry-out to families with newborns, health concerns, or other issues. Maybe it's visiting the hospitalized, residents of a nursing home, or those who are homebound. Maybe it's joining our New Focus Ministry team that offers holistic ministry to those with financial struggles; coming along side them as a financial coach, serving the families that gather by providing part of the meal and/or serving it, or maybe ministering the love of Christ to their children for a couple hours on a Monday night. Maybe it's joining a team that provides a meal for a family after a death. Maybe it's putting on your tool belt and offering a helping hand to those who aren't so handy. Maybe it's joining an upstart ministry that comes alongside single parent families. Maybe it's something we haven't even thought about and yet resides in the very heart of God. You can express the Compassion of Christ Jesus, in the power of His Spirit and connect with others as you do the handiwork of God. For more information contact Ron Hawkins, rhawkins@covenantpres.org or Cheryl Tillett, ctillett@covenanpres.org or call 463- 7303.

Growing Deeper

  through Worship and Prayer...

Worship Arts and Music Ministry

The church is to be the setting of a sacred romance, in which followers of Christ grow in expressing to God the depths of their love for Him, of their awe towards Him, and of their exclusive allegiance to Him. Worship should be the highlight of the believer's week, a festive, joyful celebration of the Living and Present God at which we present Him with our first and our best. We should worship the Lord expectantly, anticipating that we will meet and be changed by Him as we worship.

There are opportunities for all creative outlets for adults and children in the Worship Arts and Music Ministry. If you are a committed follower of Christ who loves to sing, play an instrument, dance, or act and have a desire to lead others in worship, you are welcome to join us! In addition, if your spiritual gift is hospitality, we need you as an usher or greeter. For a full description of our many expressions of worship and opportunities to become involved pick up our Worship Arts brochure at the Welcome Desks. If you would like more information, please contact Tim Dommer or Sally Craw at 463-7303.

Growing Stronger

    through Education...

Adult Education

Way of Life Class - This 4 week class, led by the Pastoral staff, is designed to introduce you to who Covenant is as a church, what we believe, the direction in which we sense God leading us, and what ministry opportunities are available to assist you as you grow as a follower of Christ. If you desire to join Covenant, or would just like to learn more about who we are, this class is for you. This class is offered each season. Please watch the bulletin for details or contact Stephen Kirk for more information, 463-7303.

Foundation Courses - Throughout the year we will be offering a series of six courses (most are 4 weeks long) which are designed to introduce you to the "nuts and bolts" of what it means to be a follower of Christ and equip you for active participation in our church family. Topics that we cover include:

-Search The Scriptures- David Henderson will teach this 7 week class in the Chapel on Wednesday evenings in Grace and Truth. Childcare will be provided.

-Finding Your Niche- Do I have "spiritual gifts" from God, and if so, how does He intend for me to deploy them into the life of this church community? Ron Hawkins teaches this 4 week class throughout the year. Watch the bulletin for details. Childcare will is provided.

-Common $ense - How can I move from seeing what I own as belonging to me, to a place of stewardship—where everything I have is the Lord’s and is yielded to His purposes? Andrew Patton teaches this 4 week class throughout the year. Watch the bulletin for details.

-Grace and Truth– Pastor David Henderson teaches this class at various times throughout the year. The class meets in the Chapel on Wednesdays nights, 7:00-8:30pm with a topic being taught for 6-8 weeks. Watch the bulletin for details.

Sunday a.m. Learning Communities

Scripture teaches us that the transformation of a person's life comes through the renewal of the mind and heart. We believe that this renewal happens best in the context of communities in which relationships are built and God's Word is relevantly applied to our lives. To this end, in addition to our corporate worship experience, we offer a variety of communities each Sunday.

9 a.m.

Collegiate Forum - Calling all college students! This growing community is just for you.

Home Builders - How we parent in the early years has a direct affect upon how our sons and daughters handle life later. Will they depend upon themselves, or will they learn to depend upon the One who loves them most? Home Builders is a community that seeks to have God's grace reign in our homes in such a way that we are yielded to the Spirit as parents. Come join us as we delve into biblical blueprints for building Christcentered families. We meet on the Lower Level, Room 124. For more information, contact the Landrum's 447-6033, lplandrum@aol.com or Ron Hawkins 463- 7303, rhawkins@covenantpres.org

Parents With Teens - Are the teen years full of hassles that bring chaos to the family? Or, prime opportunities to connect with and nurture our kids? Join us as we discuss parenting through the adolescent years! We meet in Fellowship Hall I & II. For details contact Marshall Overley, 497-4007, or toverley@covenantpres.org

10:45 a.m.

The Quest - Is God's Word really relevant to my life today? You bet! The Quest is open to anyone (all ages, long time followers and those new to faith) who has a growing desire to understand what the Bible is all about, and how it applies to their daily lives. Join us in Fellowship Hall I. Contact Stephen Kirk for more information, 463-7303, or skirk@covenantpres.org

Growing Closer

    through Relationships...

Adult Ministry

Growth Groups – Growing as a follower of Jesus means more than mastering the facts. It means cultivating relationships, a relationship with God and with God's people. No one born into the family of God was ever meant to stand alone. We need relationships where we can make friends, build a community of care and support, open up about our struggles, and celebrate God’s goodness. We all need places to do life-together. Joining a group makes this place a home and a family. If you want to get connected and grow call Tom Johnson at 463-7303.

Mariners provides an atmosphere that strengthens marriages and friendships among Christian couples. Mariners meets for fun and fellowship the second Friday of each month. The evening usually begins with a dinner followed by a program. Contact Scott and Michelle Culver, 449-4368, for more information.

Voyagers - Those 55 years of age and over meet for fellowship the third Friday of each month at 6:00pm. For more information contact Sally McIntire, 538-3610.

Young at Heart - This fellowship for seasoned citizens meets for lunch the fourth Monday of each month, 11:30am at Westminster Village. Contact Sally McIntire at 538-3610.

Men's Ministries

Our heart's desire is to have Christ become the primary passion of every man here at Covenant. We believe this will take place in the context of fun, meaningful relationships; men gathering with one another for fellowship, worship, sharing, and prayer. We need brothers we can count on, who will listen, encourage, strengthen, and graciously challenge us to keep our eyes and hearts focused on Christ and on who He wants us to be in our marriages, homes, church, workplaces, and community. To this end, we are meeting together every 2nd Tuesday of the month at Man2Man (7:00- 9:00 pm—starts in Fellowship Hall), and we are meeting in smaller groups throughout the week. We ask every man to make this a priority!

Women's Ministry

It is the desire of the Covenant Women's Ministry Team to draw all women into the adventure of the Christian faith! What better way to get plugged in to our Church family, loving the Lord and each other, than to get involved in the many activities that the Women’s Ministry Team plans. These activities will include a wide variety of Bible studies to meet your varied needs and schedules.

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) Meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from September thru May. For additional information contact Kim Wood at 743-9320.
